On paper, the math looks good for Republicans to draw themselves more congressional seats in Texas.
Take South Texas, where lawmakers are proposing to add most of Corpus Christi into U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez’s district, giving him a large swath of Latino neighborhoods that tend to vote Democrat but also forcing him to compete in areas south of the city that voted heavily for President Donald Trump. Based on Trump's performance last election, the move should shift the seat from a toss-up to a double-digit GOP margin.
